Monkey Forest
Sangeh is a
village covering about 14 hectares of a holy homogeny forest of "Pala"
trees in the northern part along with hundreds of monkeys. The trees
are not found in any other part of Bali and their existence in this
village remains a mystery. Watch for a lovely mossy temple, which is
hidden amongst the tall and the gracious "Pala tree".

Ubud
Famous as a
painter's community, Ubud has its own magic, and particularly
beautiful surroundings with a gracious way of life attracting
celebrities and artists from all over the world while some have even
made Ubud their own home.
Take a magical
walk south of the village through its terraced paddy fields to the
monkey forest. Enjoy the fresh water spouting out of the sheer rock
at the base of the ravine, and bathe in a secluded spot as part of
your pleasure. |

Celuk is the
home of the unique Balinese jewelry crafting. Nearly every family in
Celuk takes part in some part of the jewelry creations with delicate
gold and silver work very famous throughout the world.

Uluwatu Temple
On the western
tip of Bukit Peninsula, lies one of Bali's nine "directional"
Kayangan Jagat Temples. The location is a dramatic one, perched on
the edge of a high cliff with an exquisite view, especially at
sunset.
The temple was
first used for worship by the holy 11th century priest, Empu Kuturan,
who came to Bali to bring religious law and to form Desa Adat
(traditional villages). Filled with frangipani blossom scent it's
also the home of some very friendly monkeys. |

Tampaksiring
Legend has it
that the God Indra created a holy spring, piercing the ground in
search of holy water which bubbles up inside the inner courtyard of
Tirta Empul Temple in Tampaksiring and is thought to have magical
curative powers. Large numbers of people visit these special bathing
pools to enjoy the clear cool water spouting from mossy walls.

Mas Village
A village
specializing in woodcarvings of all kinds with the most prominent
wood-carvers of Bali producing elaborately fine woodcarvings. This
is also where the young generations learn to carve by imitating the
master carvers around them.

Goa Gajah
Goa Gajah means
Elephant cave which is a "T" shaped cave believed to have been built
in the early 11th century. Its face is elaborately carved, depicting
a demon head splitting open the rock with its bare hand at the mouth
of the cave. An ancient monastery of Hindu and Buddhist monks used
to meditate in the cave. |

Besakih Temple
This is Bali's
"mother temple" Pura Besakih, which is the largest and holiest
temple in Bali situated over 900 meters up the slopes of Gunung
Agung. Regarded as a holy place since pre-historic times in Bali,
the first recorded mention of its existence comes from an
inscription that dates from 1007 A.D.
Since the
fifteenth century during the Gelgel dynasty it has been regarded as
a central, holy temple for the entire island. |

Bedugul
Located in the
center highlands of Bali in the serene mountain area where
vegetables, fruits, and flowers thrive in the alpine climate, and a
quaint little market at Bukit Mungsu offers a vast selection of
local products, including : exotic wild orchids, roses, and colorful
birds.
The area's
climate is refreshing after being in the heat of the lowlands in
Lake Beratan, approximately 60 kilometers from Denpasar (to the
north), which also provides exciting surroundings, with cool
refreshing mountain air. |

Kintamani
A mountain
village which is situated at 1400 meters above sea level with a
breathtaking view to a still active volcano and Lake Batur from the
rim edge village.

Tanah Lot
Carved by tides,
wind and rain, the huge offshore sentinel rock of Tanah Lot supports
a small picturesque sea temple which can be reached by a scramble
over wet rocks. There are several large caves just below the water
line, at the base of the rock, which shelter large sea snakes, whoh
are guardians of the temple.

Gunung Kawi
These 11th
century tombs probably have some connection with King Anak Wungsu,
carved out of the rock face of the gorge of the Pakerisan River,
approached by a steep descent through breathtaking rice terrain
scenery. Across the gorge are some more impressive tombs which
were the resident meditation caves of the men who were the keepers
of the tomb.
